This ones for the coffee drinkers!

Good morning everyone, I'm sitting over here in studio B, while Daniel Walker does a fine job in studio A. As I'm sipping on my favorite tea (the apple-mango variety), and reading over the morning news run, I find something rather interesting. Apparantly caffeine helps memory. Who knew?! Here's a snippit of the release from CBC.ca.

"Caffeine may help older women protect their thinking skills, according to a study published in the August 7, 2007, issue of Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology. The study found that women age 65 and
older who drank more than three cups of coffee (or the
equivalent in tea) per day had less decline over time on tests of memory than women who drank one cup or less of coffee or tea per day. The results held up even after researchers
adjusted for other factors that could affect memory abilities, such as age, education, disability, depression, high blood pressure, medications, cardiovascular disease, and other
chronic illnesses."

Interesting that it only works for women. And just because I don't understand why toddlers and baby's need 24 hour tv (I saw it on my dish and thought it was a joke.. apparantly not!)... here's a little something from one of my favorite humorists. Well Hello Again!

Ok, so I'm a horrible blogger! I apologize. I shall work on that. It's been busy around here lately, and I've been trying out some magic tricks with being in as many as 3 places at one time. I'm also going to work on bringing my camera with me everywhere... I have a new purse and it's pretty big so it should fit. hehe. So look forward to pictures coming soon (I know I've said that before but this time I mean it)!

So what's new? Well... let's see how much I can remember (I have the world's worst memory I'm sure, but somehow I can remember tons of phone numbers. I've probably got yours memorized!)

- Last weekend I was in Chapleau at the Chapleau Auto Parts Open House. It was a whole lot of fun with frisbees, balloons, BBQ, ATV Rides, and more! A BIG thank you to Jacques, Claude, Karen, Paul, Ron and everyone else.

- Some of our recent pizza winners include Dick Watson and Craig Filion. Dick recently told me his pizza was "great and huge". Glad you enjoyed it Dick! Keep listening for your chance to win an 18" stuffed crust meat lovers pizza on Friday mornings from the Columbia Restaurant.

Hey everyone!

I know it's been a while, but we've been really busy here at the station!

First of all, I'd just like to point out that I LOVE CHAPLEAU! I had an amazing time up there during the Annual Northern Pike Ice Fishing derby, and I'd like to personally thank Bill, Barbara, Rick, Lorraine, Roger, and everyone else who helped to make the event successful. Thanks for making me feel so welcome. Chapleau really is the friendliest town in the North (and as a Wawaite that's dangerous for me to say. lol).

If you managed to catch the NHL All Stars Alumni Hockey game, you already know it was fun all around! The Wawa All Stars managed to pull out the win 6-5... but it was a close one! They really gave the Toronto Maple Leaf Alum a run for their money!

Get your fishing gear ready, and we'll see you in Wawa this weekend for the 2007 Ice Fishing Derby. Once again JJAM FM will be keeping you up to date on all the happenings throughout the derby weekend. I get to put on my snowsuit again and buzz around the lake talking to as many participants as I can who aren't phone shy :P, and I'll be in the arena with updates as well.

We've got a couple new things happening around JJAM, next week we're going to give away 2 NHL Alum autographed hockey sticks from Canadian Tire. Crazy Zamboni Drivers!

In case you missed today's Weird, Whacky, and Useless News at 6:40 am, here was the winner of today's boneheads of the day.

(I think it's great that they took Zamboni's through a drive-through, but stunts like this are only ever funny once. So please, don't try this with any zamboni's you may have access to. hehe)

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Two employees of Boise's ice rink have been fired for making a midnight fast-food run in a pair of Zambonis.

An anonymous tipster reported seeing the two big ice-resurfacing machines chug through a Burger King drive-thru and return to the rink shortly after midnight Nov. 10. The squat, rubber-tired vehicles, which have a top speed of about eight kilometres an hour, drove 2.4 kilometres to the restaurant.

The Zamboni operators, both temporary city employees whose names and ages were not released by officials, had to drive through at least one intersection with a traffic light on their late-night creep from Idaho Ice World.

"They were fired immediately," said Parks Department director Jim Hall.

"We're pretty sure it was just the one time. When we interviewed them, they didn't seem to be too concerned about it."

"I don't think they understood the seriousness of it."

Hall said neither the US$75,000 Zambonis, nor their $10,000 blades appeared damaged but the city could charge the employees with operating an unlicensed motor vehicle on a public street.

I didn't really go anywhere, I've just been really busy lately! This weekend I was Live on Location with Bell World and Wawa Jewellers, and this coming weekend I'll be at Canadian Tire in Wawa from 2-6 on Friday and 10-2 on Saturday. Wow, sorry this is a little behind the times, but I've been a busy girl!

First of all, congratulations to Jasmine Burkholder in Chapleau who won $1000 on Friday September 29th! JJAM is celebrating 10 great years and I delivered Jasmine's cheque on Saturday. She was all smiles! I'll post pictures as soon as I download them off the camera.

Hey everyone!

I can't believe it's Thursday again already! Where does the week go?

We've been busy taking qualifiers for our $1000 cash draw on September 29th, and everyone who qualifies this week will also have the opportunity to win $107 in gifts for mom, or the special lady in your life who likes her power tools. Canadian Tire is the sponser of the weekly prize, and I stand behind the statement that electric drills are probably the best inventions ever! lol

Other than that things are the same old same old around the studios.

Adrian is off on an assignment and should be back again soon, and Jesse J. still plays everything you tell him to on Friday nights (well almost everything).

As for me, I'm scheduled to participate in the 8th Annual "Take Back the Night" walk tonight. It all begins at 7 pm at the Legion Hall on Broadway Ave. There'll be a short gathering which includes local entertainment, then we'll walk to Wawa Beach. Everyone is welcome to attend, as we join together in a united effort to address the effects of violence in women's lives.

So it's the middle of the week, the weather hasn't quite decided what it wants to do yet.. and my only question was "Where's the transition between Summer and Winter?!"

Now it's time to answer a question I've been asked a hundred times (it's ok, I don't mind really) no, I'm not going back to school. And it's not because I dropped out or anything like that... I graduated!

In April I graduated from the University of Ottawa with B.A. Concentration in Communication. So I'll be sticking around for a while. :)

This Saturday I can't wait as I go goose-chasing with my crazy partner! We're going to attempt to find all 50 hidden geese, while keeping you informed of our antics from 10 am to 1 pm. Yes folks, this should be entertaining... because neither of us have ANY idea what we're doing. So tune in Saturday to find out who my partner is, and how horribly lost we are when we can't read our GPS.

New Forest Fire Management Headquarters

Minister of Natural Resources David Ramsay was in Chapleau on Tuesday morning along with MPP for Algoma-Manitoulin Mike Brown for the official opening of the new Forest Fire Management Headquarters.

The following is a press release from the MNR:

CHAPLEAU — The Ontario government has made northern communities safer and is protecting the region’s forest resources by completing construction of a $2.4 million forest fire management headquarters in Chapleau, Natural Resources Minister David Ramsay announced today.
"The Chapleau headquarters will ensure fire response staff are close to fire-prone areas so they can more effectively protect people, their property and our valuable forest resources," said Ramsay. The government is working on behalf of northerners to overcome the unique challenges of Northern Ontario and build stronger northern
communities."
The new fire management headquarters will hold 60 fire and
aviation personnel during the forest fire season. The complex will include offices, a lunchroom/meeting room, space for fire response planning and coordination, a communications room, an equipment area and a warehouse.
Construction of the Chapleau headquarters began in September 2005. Staff will move in this fall. The project is part of ReNew Ontario, the McGuinty government's strategic five-year, $30 billion infrastructure investment plan. "The Ontario government is committed to investing in essential infrastructure in Northern Ontario ," said Minister of Public Infrastructure Renewal David Caplan. "We’re helping communities in the north protect the health and safety of their residents as well as the northern economy and environment."

Are you getting excited about the biggest contest in JJAM FM's history?! I AM!

However, I still can't tell you what it is! I've had a couple people try to guess... you might have been right, you might have been wrong but guess what.. even if you were I wouldn't have told you so! That's why it's a secret! haha.

But I can tell you it's HUGE! Well not literally HUGE like an elephant HUGE but it's BIG like a light up your eyes BIG and HUGE!! (There's your hint for today... although we're not giving away any elephants. Or are we....)

I had a great time at the 24th Annual Wawa Salmon Derby. I know some of you thought I might have been over-exaggerating my love of the fish cleaning station, but seriously I spent all my time over there. It's mesmerizing what can I say?! lol. It made me want to go fishing seeing all the big fish roll through there. I've never been salmon fishing before... anyone want to take me? haha.

This is a busy week here at JJAM... Wednesday I was at the Arena in Wawa from 3-7 pm, and I'll be there again today from 3-7 pm, and Friday from 2-6 pm because "World Sound and Vision" is in town and they've got the best in audio systems and big screen tvs. Check it out!

Saturday we'll be live on location at Canadian Tire in Wawa as the Mowbrays say "Thank You" for 4 great years. They're off to new and exciting things and we wish them all the best.

What else? Well, Jesse Johnson is making his debut this week as your main man in the air chair from 5 to 7 pm! And don't forget to catch Jesse on the Friday Night All Request Hotline, brought to you by Northern Lights Ford. Friday nights from 6-10 pm... you call the shots because we're lazy. Nahhhh, we're not lazy just unmotivated. One of my brothers has a t-shirt with that on it, has to be one of the truest statements I've ever heard. However, we're not lazy or unmotivated, just kind. :D

Chapleau Nature Festival July 12-16 2006

Well, I had the pleasure of attending this years annual Chapleau Nature Festival! And what an awesome time I had!

First of all i would like to thank everyone in Chapleau for making me feel right at home during the festival. :D

One of the highlights of every nature festival include the fiddling and stepdancing competition. With participants from all over Ontario, it's one of my favorite events of the weekend! When they all got together at the awards ceremony on Saturday night, it was a treat for everyone in the Moore Arena!

The festival also brings in great entertainment year after year, and this year was no exception. Thursday night festival goers were entertained by La Volee D'Castors. On Friday night it was a performance by BAM! Percussion, and Martin Lawrence and Vern Chechoo. I was almost lucky enough to win Lawrence's Bingo game.. but alas, I was sunk with G52! Dang! lol

On Saturday night following a day of activities which included water bomber displays, horse and buggy rides, scuba diving, and soo much more, we were entertained by our Canadain Idols, Melissa O'Neil and Rex Goudie. It was a great show, and the two were extra friendly behind the scenes as well.

Like I said, I had a blast in Chapleau last weekend. I brought my mom along with me for some mother daughter bonding time! lol
